Mexico City Cafe in La Junta

The margaritas are great! I wanted some tacos, and I was told they only had chorizo or chicken tacos. I asked the waitress why they didn't have beef tacos, and I was told because beef tacos aren't Mexican. I proceeded to get chicken tacos. The chicken in the tacos were tasteless, and had no flavor to them. They have a one page menu (front and back). One side is a la carte and appetizers. The other side is their 10 main dishes.. I'm not very impressed with this place. And I will not be going back.

I was there as a big group from my husbands work & all our food was great tasting, hot and very pleasing presented, staff real professional and friendly.....have been in la junta most of my life & had never been to Mexico city, I am glad I was invited, will be visiting again for sure & will most definitely recommend it to my friends & family.

We stopped in for dinner and had a great time. The staff accommodated our large group quickly. We were served and attended to professionally and with care. The food was very good and in large portion. We definitely recommend the Mexico City Cafe.

We've been wanting to visit here for quite some time, and we finally made it! We definitely were very delighted to enjoy dinner here! A great local hideaway for a dinner getaway! Very casual atmosphere with the courteous staff! Robert walked around checking on everyone, treating every one more like friends and family than just a patron. Customer service like this really makes a person very comfortable. We had the special : chili rellenos. Awesome dish, and the margaritas were fabulous! Cant wait to go back the next time I'm in the area!

Very nice staff and good service but to our group the food was just "ok." We also felt rushed by staff constantly checking and asking to take plates, anything else? etc. Good drinks tho and pleasant owner

Great flavors for Carnitas. Enjoyed the house margarita and also the Cadillac Margarita. Process very reasonable.

Sad we do not live in the area as I would make this a favorite go to place! The food was inexpensive and delicious! Staff was hands down the most friendly we have experienced in a very long time! Multiple levels of staff introduced themselves during our visit to check on our table, including one of the cooks. Our Waitress Gail was the most friendly and interactive wait staff we have ever had. It was more than just having dinner, we felt we were having a meal at a friends home. Our group could not stop talking about our experience there on our ride back to our hotel. We can not express how much fun and enjoyment we had at this restaurant.... and how grateful we were for the fun meal we enjoyed there!

Wait staff was great. The food is delicious. We are just passing thru, but if we lived here, this would be our go to place.

Every meal was exellent, very responsible prices. Unique decor, and super friendly staff.

Such a fun little place. It's worth going a couple minutes out of your way for delicious food and a full service bar!

I'm still scratching my head over this place. Ive never eaten at a Mexican, New Mexican, or Tex-Mex Restaurant that served vermicelli. No, out correct did not change that. Other than that oddity, the food was good. The Cheleda was ginormous. And the service was great!

Staff is very friendly and the prices are great. Food is also good. If i could give a half star i would. Place is not top quality Mexican food but it's better than most places. I would recommend and eat here again!

I wasn't really impressed about any of it, those people used to make really good green chili and other plates, and there tacos were great back when i was younger!!!! And i swear my Drink was watered down!!!! ?

The staff was very nice and most of the diners seemed to know them or each other or both. It appeared to be a great community gathering place. The tamales and tostadas were delicious, as were the beans. The chicken enchilada was okay.

Food was low quality and sloppy. Tasted and felt like it was microwaved. They're cash only and I can't think of anything I liked about this place. Queso tastes like velveeta and looks like it too. Every place we go in SE Colorado has crappy yellow queso. What is wrong with this place? Go to Lucy's and get your money's worth.

Most authentic Mexican food in the valley! We bring the family here often. Def recommend

My first time here will be my last. They only accept cash, and the food is over priced. I never had hard shell tacos so greasy, the beans were a soupy mess, and bland. Horrible!

Always enjoy Mexico City Restaurant their food is always great! Had their carnitas fluta and guacamole, it was my favorite that I had.

One word! BARF!!! Everybody raves about this place, so we thought we'd check it out. We could not believe how horrible the food tasted and slow the service was! Came out cold and very bland! Taco Bell serves better Mexican Food!!! Will not be going back! What a waste of money!!!

Love this place. This is the food I grew up on. Guacamole is top-notch. I like the chicken tacos with flour tortillas. The vermicelli is outstanding. We go every time we are in town. (My brother went 4 times in 4 days!) The staff are always great. Food is quick. They can handle larger groups, we have gone with groups of 15 and more - no problems. They offer several comfort Mexican foods. They have some daily specials. The also offer adult beverages from the bar. We will return as often as we can. Thanks for the great job!!!

Always have good food and great service. It can get packed but the staff is able to easily adapt and is still friendly and as fast as they can be.

This is my 2nd trip to La Junta and the locals recommended it both times. Finally tried it during this trip and I'm glad I did! Great food, great margaritas, great people! Did I mention the margaritas? Cash only though (at the time of this review) so be prepared to pay cash.
